Custom Patio & Walkway Design for South Florida

A well-designed patio adds real usable living space to your home. A properly laid walkway creates natural flow through your property, improves safety, and frames your landscape beautifully. Together, these hardscape elements dramatically increase both your day-to-day enjoyment and your property's resale value.

At Botanical Designs, we integrate patios and walkways directly into our landscape designs — so pavers, plants, edging, lighting, and irrigation are planned together as a single cohesive outdoor space. Nothing looks like an afterthought. We've been building custom hardscape across Broward County, Palm Beach County, and Miami-Dade since the 1990s and understand how South Florida's heat, humidity, and sandy substrate affect hardscape materials over time.

We build accordingly, with proper base preparation, drainage planning, and material selection that holds up in our climate for decades — not just years.

Materials & Options

Choosing the Right Paver Material for South Florida

Material selection matters more in South Florida than most climates — UV exposure, heat retention, heavy rain, and slip resistance around pools all factor in. We help you choose based on your budget, style, and specific use case.

🪨

Travertine

South Florida's most popular premium option. Natural stone with excellent heat resistance — stays cooler underfoot in full sun. Beautiful around pools and entry areas.

🔲

Concrete Pavers

Versatile, durable, and available in a wide range of colors and patterns. Often the best value for large areas. Handles ground movement better than poured slabs.

🌿

Natural Stone

Limestone, coquina, and other natural stone options give a distinctive organic character. Each piece is unique. Best suited for accent areas and garden paths.

🧱

Brick Pavers

Classic and durable with a warm, traditional character. Holds up exceptionally well in South Florida's climate. Popular for driveways and traditional-style properties.

Outdoor Lighting

Landscape Lighting That Transforms Your Property After Dark

South Florida's evenings are some of the best in the country — warm, comfortable, and perfect for outdoor living. The right landscape lighting turns your patio and walkway into a fully usable, beautifully lit outdoor retreat long after the sun goes down. It also adds a layer of security and visibility throughout your property.

We design and install complete outdoor lighting systems as part of new patio and walkway projects, or as standalone upgrades to existing hardscape. Our lighting designs use LED and low-voltage fixtures selected for long life in South Florida's heat and humidity. Done well, landscape lighting creates atmosphere — warm uplighting on palms, soft path lights along walkways, ambient glow over an outdoor dining area.

  • Path and walkway lighting for safety and ambiance
  • Palm and feature tree uplighting
  • Accent and wall wash lighting on architectural elements
  • Patio and outdoor dining area ambient lighting
  • LED and low-voltage systems — energy efficient, long-lasting
  • Timer and smart controls available

Questions

Patios & Walkways FAQs

What paver materials do you recommend for South Florida? +
Travertine is our most popular recommendation for patios and pool areas — it's natural stone, stays relatively cool underfoot in full sun, and looks exceptional. For large patio areas on a tighter budget, interlocking concrete pavers are an excellent choice and hold up well to South Florida's ground movement. We'll walk you through all options during your consultation.
How long do pavers last in South Florida's climate? +
Quality pavers installed with proper base preparation — correct compaction depth, appropriate base material, and adequate drainage — will typically last 25 to 50 years or more in South Florida. The base is everything. A paver that fails in 5–7 years almost always failed because of improper base installation, not the paver itself. We don't cut corners on base prep.
Do you handle permits for patio and hardscape installations? +
Permit requirements vary by municipality and project scope across Broward County, Palm Beach County, and Miami-Dade. We'll assess your specific project and advise you on what's needed in your jurisdiction — and we can assist with the permit application process where required.
Can you add landscape lighting to an existing patio? +
Yes. Outdoor lighting doesn't require a new patio build — we install lighting as a standalone project for existing patios, walkways, and landscapes. We'll assess your current setup, design a lighting plan that fits your outdoor space, and install it with minimal disruption to your existing hardscape.
How long does a patio installation take? +
Most residential patio projects are completed in 2–5 days depending on size and complexity. Projects that include lighting and irrigation coordination may run a day or two longer. We'll give you a specific schedule during your consultation.
